Executive

The Executive is responsible for most day to day decisions made by the council. It oversees the formulation of new policies and strategies and considers reports and recommendations from the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

The Executive Forward Plan is published on a monthly basis and identifies key decisions which are likely to be made by the Executive over a period of 12 months.

Key decisions are those which involve significant expenditure or savings which have a significant effect on the local community.

Chair of the Council

The Chair represents Teignbridge at all civic and ceremonial events. They also chair full meetings of the Council in accordance with the Constitution and conducts the meeting in a fair and impartial way. The holder of the office is formally appointed at the first meeting of the Council at the start of the municipal year. As Chairm, they cannot be a Member of the Executive although they may be a Member of any of the Council's committees or review groups but only in their capacity as an ordinary Member of the Council.

Leader of the Council

The Leader is nominated by the largest political group at the annual meeting of the Council. They are then elected for a term of four years. The Leader is responsible for carrying out the Executive functions of the Council and leading on policy development. They also represent the Council in communications with Central Government and takes a central role in working with other organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors. After being appointed, the Leader of the Council recommends the names of Councillors who are to serve in the Executive.
