Purpose:

The Commercial Property Investment Board (CPIB) approved the use of Teignbridge DC funds to match fund grant from the Home Office to procure 18 homes for use to house refugees in the short term and TDC residents in the longer term. Report attached. This decision enables officers to purchase 18 properties from the market.

Alternative options considered:

Officers have considered various options including buying existing satisfactory dwellings and new purchases from housebuilders. The attached report details the decisions taken by Officers so far to agree to buy 14 properties. All of these offers have been accepted and are now with Legal Services to conduct due diligence and carry out the appropriate conveyancing. Negotiations by Officers have enabled a £243,000 saving compared with the marketed price of the properties. Negotiations continue to procure the remaining 4 properties.
