The original approval covers design work and
land acquisition costs for both Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Teign
Estuary Trail. However, based on further refined costings, and also
based on available capacity, it is necessary to focus efforts on
Phase 3 which is the most vital and the most demanded stretch of
the Trail. Phase 3 is from the west of Bishopsteignton to
Kingsteignton where there is currently no footway and extremely
poor conditions for cycling that prevents the vast majority of
active travel journeys.
Focus on land acquisition and design work for
Phase 3 of the Teign Estuary Trail, and do not progress Phase 2
concurrently. This provides the best chance of success with Phase
3. Reduction of the TDC contribution proportionately from
£950,000 to £550,000. Likewise proportionate reduction
of DCC contribution from 1,650,000 to 900,000 (subject to ongoing
approvals beyond 2025/26).
